Hi, all, my new partner of one year is sole carer for his 2 children aged 10 and 14, their mother has been in and out of the scene for the last 8 years, contact has been erractic, sometimes phone calls then sometimes contact every few weeks, sadly it has now got to the point where the children dont want to see her as they say they dont do anything with her, just stay indoors and do nothing, Their father(my partner) has spoken to her and tried to discuss regular contact, but she gets very abusive to him and then when she speaks to the children she is abusive to them about their father and now me, she says that their father is telling them what to say and do, he wants CAFCASS involved so they can see for themselves how the children are and what they want, can he contact cafcass direct and ask them to get involved or does he need to go through solicitors, sorry to rant on a bit. Thankyou for reading my post .

Are there any court proceedings? CAFCASS are the "eyes and ears" of the court and a judge would decide if they should become involved initially to provide a report to assist the court in making a ruling.

court proceedings are for financial and divorce only, no contact order in place, contact was initially agreed by both parties, every other weekend from sat morning to sunday tea-time for her but this has dropped off slowly by the mother, sometimes she will ring late friday night to say she cant have them until sat lunch, my partner suggests he will drop them off for her as she dont drive, she says no. ocassionaly she does not turn up at all and then partner phones to see where she is, then she says she aint coming to get them, he then asks her to tell the the children why ?but she just grunts and puts down the phone. over the last 6 weeks she has seen them for 1 full weekend only. last week her mother and herself sat outside the bus stop where the eldest gets off from school questioning about her day and what happens within the family home, the eldest is now anxious about getting home from school and has started to get off the bus a stop early so she dont see them. When the mother does phone she is quite rude and abrupt to the eldest child, the yonger child does not even want to talk to his mother now on the phone because they get bombarded with questions . i

IT''s important to focus on solutions rather than fault finding. As there are no children proceedings it sounds as though family counselling such as the service provided by Relate would be a way forward.

Thankyou, i will be sure to suggest this to him, they did try mediation but a letter came back to say that mrs ...... was not suitable for mediation at this time . My partner has got an appt at the eldest childs school next week for her annual review, he has suggested to see if there is counsellor at school that she could talk to as she has become very quiet and wont talk,Thankyou again .
