Looks as though these "First Letters" stem from this?
www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/cms/937.htm
They seem to have overlooked this bit? -
"3.7 The impact of any correspondence upon the reader and in particular the parties must always be considered. Any correspondence which raises irrelevant issues or which might cause the other party to adopt an entrenched, polarised or hostile position is to be discouraged."
Some of these First Letters look intimidating - especially so because they are the first letters you get about sorting out your finances?

I received my 'First letter' this week from my stbx sol, which implied that they had not filed the petition yet and I was pleasantly surprised at the non-confrontational tone of it.

They were suggesting that I should start to compile my own financial disclosure statement as they were doing one on my wife's behalf. I assume this is for ‘voluntary disclosure’ and I posted earlier this week on a similar thread under DIY Divorce 'First letter received'(would have included link but don't know how).

I read in another thread after i posted something Fiona said, which was

'when it is appropriate, there is a pre-application protocol for disclosure (form E) and negotiation for solicitors to follow. This is voluntary and has nothing to do with Court procedure'
