How long does the divorce take

I filed for a divorce 3 weeks ago my solicitor advised me that she had informed my husbands solicitor and apparently he would need to fund some of the cost of the divorce. Why is this taking so long and how is the process working.

a divorce typically takes around 6 months, although sorting out financial issues or issues around children can take longer.

When the Petition is sent to the court (filed) the court will issue it, then post a copy to your ex. The court will write to your solicitor at the same time, to tell them when the petition was posted to him, he should then complete an acknowlegment within 7 days if receiving the Petition.

A court may take several days to issue the ption, and then the petion has to be posted to your ex, and after he has completed the acknowledgment, that has to be posted back and the court post it on to you.

After three week it is not unreasonable to ask whether the acknowledment has been completed.

However, there are lots of reasons why it may take a little konger - for instance, your ex may haveto wait to get an appointment with his solicitor.

Also - are you sure that the divorce has ben filed? normally a draft copy of the petition would be sent to the other party, and they will be given time to comment on it before it is actually filed at court.

I suggest that you ask your solcitior to clarify what is happening and how quickly things will move.
