I feel totally stressed and sick.
Background...
My husband and I had a joint account, from which all bills, mortgage, running costs of house and family were paid. When he left he stopped paying into the account. Then without any warning or discussion he moved the mortgage payments from the joint account to his personal account. ( I'm not sure if he should have done this, it's a joint mortgage!) Anyway all statements continued to come to our home address. He refused to move some of his personal DD's from the joint account, his credit cards etc. even though he wasn't paying into it. So a couple of months ago I moved all household bills to a new account and froze our joint account. I told him I had done this and advised him to move his personal debts.
I also opened a couple of savings accounts to try and keep money seperate for solicitors fees etc.
Anyway I ordered a debit card for the new account, which didn't arrive. So yesterday I went into the bank to find out what had happened to the card.
Bank asked if I had moved address recently, I said I hadn't. They then showed me the computer screen which had my accounts, my name and his mistresses ADDRESS!!!!
I feel totally sick. I'm waiting for the bank to investigate the error, but the address details were changed a month ago, so she has received one lot of statements for my personal account and the savings accounts, as well as our joint account and our mortgage account.
I cannot think how this has happened. Our joint account was frozen, with instructions 'Both parties to sign' So I can only think that they have both gone to change the address of the joint account / or mortgage account and that she has pretended to be me!!
What can I do - I'm so upset by this. My sister says I shouldn't wait for the bank to investigate, but should go to the police.
Please advise. I can't believe he has done this and not said anything.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go to the police. They will investigate for any criminal activity (forgery, fraud, etc) whereas they bank may be loooking more at the possibility of any errors they may have made..

Why do people feel the need to do things like this!!

Hi Sara,
Welcome to Wiki
I agree with Sun go to the Police, a frozen account is just that nothing should be changed on it unless both parties sign. Even an address. Do it sooner than later. The bank will investigate, but this will take time. Go to your local police station and have a word with someone.
Keep us all updated as to what happens.
good luck to you

HI Sara
Welcome to Wiki, the good news is we all come with experience so there's always someone to help.
A similar thing happend to me, but he (or she) set up a direct debit on my personal account. You need to report it to the police and get a crime number. The bank can only fully investigate it when they have one. It is fraud..
I didn't pursue it at the time as was having a "life's to short moment" if I'd known what was to come I'd have had him hung drawn and quartered !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had this done to me ths year, i have 2 accounts with a BS i put a cheque in my savings account and wanted to order a new pin number for the other account this was a new account i opened last summer a yr after we divorced solely to pay my rent, only this account's address had been changed to my ex's address so him and her have had a good read of my bank statement, i spoke with BS after i had to travel to a larger branch to change the address back to my address and demanded they done a full id , i reported this to my then sol who said the usual words as long as money has'nt been taken there is nothing we can do, the same as the absolute hearing states after hearing the petitioner in person i never even knew about this court hearing let alone there so if i were'nt who was?

Same happenend with our joint account.
The slut had for some time access to all my bank statements. When I found out I was violently sick.
They did that while I was on holiday.
However.. how can they change the address to your personal account? Even he should have no access to that.
I would go to the bank on Monday and ask for the manager. Throw a temper tantrum if they refuse. They need to show you all their paper work. If they cant provide that tell them that you are going to sue them. You will get every scratch of paper they can find.. believe me.
If there is a forged signature.. go to the police.

Thank you everyone.

I'm concerned that if I go the police and it was a bank error and not a malicious action, then I'm going to further damage the relationship between me and my husband.
However I don't understand why he tried to change the address of our joint account.

I can only think of two possible events. Either he and his mistress has deliberately changed my details, so she has pretended to be me - In which case I'm def going to the police.
OR he has changed the address of the joint account and the bank have changed all other accounts in error, in which case why didn't he say anything to me when my statements arrived at her flat?

In either event the bank are at fault for changing the address on a frozen 'Both parties to sign' account.

I think I'll to the bank on MOnday and if that fails I'll go to the police.
