Hi Is anyone able to advise me please with regards to taking a Mckenzie Friend into the court. Do I have to be given written permission from the Courts/do I need to write to them?

Thanks in advance

Yes, although most courts now have a standard form for MFs to complete, a short CV should also be written. The important points to include are:

that the role and restrictions of a MF are fully understood,

that the Practice Directions have been read and understood,

that the MF understands the duty of confidentiality,

whether or not there is any remuneration (inc travel expenses)

that the MF has no connection or involvement in the case

any relevant experience (If there isn't any, that's fine, just put down the other points)

Thank you so much for the info. Feel that time is running out before 1st hearing. Is there a Form I can download to send to Court requesting to attend? Or do I just send cv and information to Judge for that case?

Also, want to thank everyone at wikivorce for all their help. They have been wonderful. Trying to help a relation when you have never done this before is daunting and learning (well trying to) so much.

The court may be able to provide you with the form they use, but you're probably better (and quicker!) sending over the short cv and request directly.
If your MF is one who's assisted before as a MF, they will know what to do, and what to write in thier CV (if they have and don't know what to write then run a mile!). If it's a friend or someone who hasn't assisted before as a MF,they may find the template below helpful. It is based on the CV I use when I occasionally assist someone as a MF:

Their Name
I am assisting [yourname] as a McKenzie Friend.
I am not a member or supporter of any campaign group. I have/have not previously acted as a McKenzie Friend in family law cases.

I fully understand the role and the restrictions of a McKenzie Friend, I have read and fully understood the Practice Guidance. I confirm that I understand the duty of confidentiality, that I am not connected to or involved in the case and that I am not receiving any financial enumeration other than my travel expenses.

Signed.........
