Hi help. I got divorced a few years ago and my son is now 18. He dropped out of school at 17 and lives with his father (long story). The divorce settlement states entitled monies will be given wen he reaches 18 or leaves further education. My son has currently been in and out of work but now has a job which includes apprenticeship on a day release. does this now mean I'm not entitled to the money yet? Although before he got this my ex was going to proceed

Yours faithfully
anonymous

An apprenticeship doesn’t count as full time further education for child support purposes if that is what mean?
IE you no longer have to pay maintenance.

Hi thank you. It's not for maintenance is for divorce settlement that states " when my son turns 18 or leaves further education" is when I would receive settlement. So I'm asking does an apprenticeship class as "further education"

No it doesn’t count as further education so that trigger point has been reached.

It might be worth checking the exact wording though as he hasn’t reached 18 yet. Is the order worded so if he were over 18 and still in further education the trigger for settlement still won’t have been reached or are they two completely separate points?

Either way he isn’t in further education and you know exactly when his 18th birthday is so you can start planning.
