Hi All,

First post here just after general opinions. My wife and I are struggling and I believe we may be heading for divorce/seperation etc. Married 15 years and we have 2 children 11 and 14.

Currently I earn 150k and my wife 28k. I am pretty much the main parent. I do all school runs, after school clubs, weekend sport etc. I also cook 99% of meals including for my wife. Also i generally look after the house as she works in office 9 -6.30 and then out to gym many nights so me or the children hardly see her.

We have net assets of about 1.5m but most is in my pension. We still have mortage on our house but I dont thing we would be able to buy 2 properties where we live. I am wondering what post divorce would look like. I expect assets will be divided 50-50 and I would likely have to pay sposual maintenance. But I am wondering is there a chance I get to be primary carer of children? I can't imagine she would be able to look after them without giving up her job.

Any thoughts or questions welcome

Starting point for dividing assets would be 50:50.

Unlikely she will get SM if kids are with you most of the time. In fact she would be liable to pay you child maintenance.

She may need more of the assets due to the difference in incomes as you will have a much greater mortgage capacity.

How much do three bed houses round by you and what assets are there?

Courts expect parents to sort out child care arrangements and only get involved with court orders etc if they have to. If you all agree children are staying with you then it won’t be an issue. At the ages of 11 and 14 they will have a big say in the matter anyway and will probably end up voting with their feet and staying at which ever house they prefer to be at the majority of the time.
