Without sounding to much like an idiot but how does the chat part of the site work. I have read about it countless times, I've entered a few times and some of the people have said hi, (sorry if your one of the people who have said hi and I've left the site without a word). Part of the reason is that I didn't know what to do and partly beacause I'd just joined the site and was finding dealing with the break down (I'd look at the site, break down in tears over my situation and leave the site).
To think I've been online for well over seven years. This is the first site that I've posted on and I've never been in a chat room - sad or what, maybe being an such introvert has stopped me from having lots of laughs. .
Thanks for the help, maybe I'll thank you in the chat room soon.
Your username has probably spooked a few breakfast lovers
Chat is one of Mr Wikivorce's greatest tools that has been added to the site.
There are two flavours, commonly known as 'old' chat and 'new' chat (my word, we are original here!)
You would be best starting in 'old' chat. That is purely text and emoticons. New chat involves video chat and audio.
To get in, click on the wikivorce chat room link from the front page.
When the screen loads, on the right is a list of users in the chat room. There are several rooms available, and you can create your own temporary ones. However most people lurk in the lobby, the room you are in from entering.
To type in the chat, at the bottom i a big white box with SEND on a button next to it. Type your text in the box and either click send, or press the enter key after you have typed your text. It will appear in the main screen against your name.
If you are feeling brave, click on the smiley face button above the text window and a submenu appears with a load of little images with emotive meanings - emoticons
If you click on one, it's textual shortcut will appear in the chat text box, but when you click send or press enter, it will translate to the image. Like : ) (no spaces) will make a smile ;. ; ) will make a wink) etc
Hopefully this ill get you going and the luverly wikipeeps will fill you in on the rest.
It's daunting at first, so just come into the chat room and watch for a while. There are a lot of people who know each other now and a lot of banter, which can be off putting at first. BUT when someone has a problem serious or minor everyone will help in any way they can. We are a terrific bunch and totally there for each other.
To join in the chat, go to the box at the bottom of the page and just type hi, hit enter and bingo you're one of us. You would have been welcomed by everyone from the minute you "step" into chat. We are very friendly.
If you have a question ask away. We always have time for newbies, afterall each of us was once one. I have only been on for a few months when I was in despair and through the support of Wiki Peeps I have got myself together far sooner than had I been on my own.
The people here are all in similar situations, from different sides of the fence even and, most importantly at different stages so they are experienced and there is always someone with time to help.
