thanks guys for your encoureagement, shall have another attempt or two and also look out for the social events. would be good to meet others in the same boat. on saturday night some friends in the small town where i live held a party for my birthday, was so sweet of them, but was all couples ,lovely that they have not outed me as a single person and i had a nice time. though watching couples htat have been together 20 odd years laughing and joking together felt poignant to me and coming home was hellish by myself and i really felt the loss of my partner again as was a set of people we always hung out with as a couple. have spent the last few days crying intermittently again - this is six blinkin months down the line . so i will bite the bullet and come to a social event. thanks again i find this site huge support, just knowing so many others out there going through it. i am just scared i am becoming a permanently unhappy person, which is so not how i used to be.
rhi.

Rhiannon,

It can be a little daunting but Mark had some great advice, i used to go in on the mornings to start with, it did not take long to get to know a few people ... before i knew it i was well away with the chat .. keep trying you will get there hun :)

Also, the events are supposedly very good, the lancaster meet will be my first .. am i nervous .. not in the slightest I'm very eager to meet all these people i have shared my stuff with they feel like genuine friends.

Quiz nights are great fun as well :)

Thanks for all your comments I'm pleased this has opened something of a debate at least :):)
