To stop my brain chuntering I listen to bbc iplayer radio and it sends me to sleep. It is contrary to most advice about sound sleep but listening to something like Melvyn Bragg or something else helps - if I don;t sleep at least I am wiser after the event but it usually does the job. (It does mean you have a 'light' of bedside net book on all night - I haven't solved that one yet.
