My bruv's waiting to hear if they'll sanction a bone marrow transplant - as nearest relative I want to help - anyone tell me what the procedure is/how best to prepare?
No testing yet so I don't know if I match.

hi Maggie

google 'bone marrow transplant'
also I'm sure that when you express an interest with his doctor that they will fall over themselves to explain it all.

hope all goes well

Hi Maggie,
Going back about 20 years the procedure for going onto a bone marrow register was done via a blood test, it may have changed a little since then. The actual transplant itself involves removing marrow from a bone (usually thigh bone) via a needle, I've not had it done myself but I understand it can be a little unconfortable but no worse than that.

Good luck and praying you are a match.

This website is pretty informative and should provide you all with the information that you require. I hope it all works out.

Hi Magggie

I do hope your brother gets the transplant!

I had the fortune moment to witness a bone marrow procedure. A very interesting procedure indeed.

If any need any guidance, I'll be happy to help!

Praying for you both.

Thanks everyone - feeling a bit calmer now - looked at the online information - waiting to hear what's going to happen - the doctors are meeting today to discuss his treatment.
