Introduction

Hi

I am a respondent in a divorce after a 16 year marriage. I live and work in Houston and my ex and daughter live in England. My ex filed the Petition but as normal the process has been emotional and expensive. The legal expenses are way out of line with the marriage assets. The main issue is my ex''s belief (unfounded) that I have "hidden" assets and income. There are a number of issues that have arisen but looking back on history I notices that I had not been resident in England for over a year when my ex filed the divorce. I had been living and working in the US for ~ 2 years. So my question is - was the divorce filing legal in the Courts of England. I would appreciate any insights from the community.

Im sorry but I don''t know a thing about legal issues only I have never been married but was involved with a man who was separated and going through a divorce and he was Italian and lived in Italy . I know it was going to take 3 years before he could file for divorce . I believe yes it is legal even though you were working in a different country but I could be wrong.. best wishes j

Why bother to reply then? And it''s George so ofcourse that person cant be him. I don''t think g clooney would come here for divorce advice!

If your wife habitually lives in the UK and or is domiciled here she is eligible to divorce here. When there is a choice of jurisdiction the usual international convention is the courts in the country where the divorce was filed first has jurisdiction.
