can anyone help with my query, This may seem a strange question but if children have been awarded permission by the courts to be party to court proceedings regarding contact issues and have their own legal representative is this covered under my legal aid certificate or do they have a right to apply for legal aid in their own right??

There are planned changes to Legal Aid, and part of those changes was to withdraw LA from children, however nothing is set in stone yet, and as far as I know, children are still entitled to apply for LA in their own right, with only their own income being taken into account.

The Children''s Legal Advice Centre would be a good starting point for your children, there is a free legal advice helpline that could be made use of in the first instance - www.childrenslegalcentre.com/
