Hi,

I left an abusive relationship in December, this was never reported to the police at the time. Since then I have had to involve the police twice, once when I tried to leave when I was forced to hand over my keys and another time when I was receiving abusive and threatening messages. We have now cut all contact following advice from the police (I also didn''t want to raise formal issues as she has kids).

She is now living in a house that I am paying 95% of the mortgage for and is refusing to drop the sale price for a quick sale. Currently it is 30k over our break even point, after 2 years. As I am paying most of the mortgage and renting my own place I am keen to sell the house asap but she will not reduce the price. I am not trying to make her lose money and will split profit 50/50 as well as repay the deposit she provided.

Is there any way I can force her to drop the price as I am paying most of the mortgage? I am now reaching a point where I cannot maintain the payments I am making.

Hi, we''re not married. She has 2 children from a previous relationship and receives maintenance from their father. She also has a decent job and can afford her own mortgage.

Hi, assuming that you are a legal owner, did you sign the estate agency contract?

And why are you paying 95% of the mortgage payment?

I signed the agreement, I''m paying 95% of the mortgage as it''s a large house and she cannot (or claims not to be able to) afford the running costs and mortgage for such a large house. Being nice I said if she covered the cost of rent I would cover the rest. But I can only keep it up so long.

In which case you speak to the agent and discuss getting the price reduced. Then inform your ex that you are are unable to afford paying at the current rate and you reduce it down to 50% or stop paying altogether.

Of course she said she could not afford it, because she knew you would pay it but she has no incentive to sell the house.

And if I drop the mortgage payments and she refuses to pay a share then what happens, I assume I''ll have no protection and will end up with bad credit?
