Is it possible for a judge to order mortgage payments instead of spousal maintenance?

I'm in a complicated situation whereby I'll soon be migrated from Working tax credits to Universal Credit.

Any spousal maintenance would just be deducted £ for £ from the Universal Credit so it wouldn't help me to pay the mortgage while the house goes on the market and is sold.

Could a judge therefore order that my ex pays the mortgage for a defined period that gives me the opportunity to get it on the market and sell it??

I'm going to court soon (ex's choice) but as we can't agree on how to split the assets, how could I put it on the market now? My ex persistently requests that I put it up for sale, but if it sells before we have agreed how we will rehouse, where does he expect us to live in the meantime??
