How Do Middle Aged Women With An Empty Nest Make Sense Of Marital Difficulties?

Suzi Godson, from Birkbeck University in London, is conducting a study which will explore how middle-aged women with an empty nest make sense of marital difficulties.

The empty nest stage can be a particularly vulnerable period because when attention is directed away from children and back towards the primary relationship, it can highlight any shortcomings in the marriage.

This study will help us to understand whether relationship difficulties are experienced and managed differently when they are not mediated by the needs of younger children.

For the study, Suzi hopes to interview a number of married women, aged roughly 50-65, who are experiencing marital difficulties.

To be eligible, your youngest child must be under 18 years of age and you must have co-parented your children with your spouse.
The results of the study will be used in a PhD thesis and may be presented at conferences, or written up in journals, but any published data will be totally anonymous.
