Sorry to dissapoint you, but according to my son who works for KPMG, public sector pensions are organised differently, and their CETV is lower than in private sector, personallyn I have an NHS, not good news.

Think a judge might suggest an actuaries report to assess the impact on a pension share. Its not as straight forward as you have 50% and then you both walk away with the same amount of pension.

It will depend on each of your ages. When you will take up your pension share. Lots of different factors.

Trying to share a defined benefit pension without consulting a pension expert would be a big mistake.

What % did you agree on and how did you come to that decision?

An up-date!
We have had our meeting with the judge and, as Dukey foresaw, it was a bit of a non event.
I was rather stressed and apprehensive so I didn''t take in all of what was said but the main concerns regarding the pension share seemed to be-
1. that it is difficult to value a Forces pension ( I presume he meant that the pension may have been undervalued)
2. that I would not be able to take my pension until I was 60/65 or before that if actuarialy reduced
3. that my ex would loose the percentage of his pension immediately (the pension is in payment).

Once we assured him that we had considered all that and were happy to go ahead, he approved the Consent Order and gave us the Decree Absolute. I am so relieved that it is over. Just a case of tying up loose ends now.

But at least its over, hopefully you were not kept waiting too long for the actual hearing.

Happy days.

Free at last - great feeling.
I know it was a bit of a wasted journey and stressful but a judge who knows about Forces pension sharing - priceless.
Thanks for sharing the end of your story.
