I am about to come up to the 1 year anniversaryof my Nisi. The Consent Order is being drafted but obviously won''t be ready/sealed before the year is up. Should I go ahead and get the Absolute anyway? We''re joint owners of the house; as far as I can see the only thing I''d stand to lose out on is a widow''s pension if he dropped dead, which he is unfortunately showing no signs of doing.

If I leave the absolute to after the year, what would I have to do to get it? The only reason it has taken so long is my own procrastination - I found it very difficult to take the final step:(

Its best to wait until the CO is sealed before applying for the Absolute.

All you need to do is send in a letter to the Court explaining why there has been a delay in applying for the Absolute when you apply for it. Its not unusual for people to have more than a 12 month delay in applying as they are still sorting out the finances.
