hi I have 5 houses 4 in my name and one in joint name's we have bin married 25 years we have 4 children can I gift the 4 houses to then before I go down the device road all advice will be grateful regards Les

Hmm. If divorce is contemplated, I wouldn't dispose of any property until you have sorted out how your respective needs are to be met post divorce.
If you do, then it is possible for a transfer or sale to be reversed if it was done to defeat a financial claim. A freezing order may also be obtained to prevent the transfer.
All assets, no matter whose name they are in, are matrimonial assets.
If you can agree on how assets are to be dealt with - and this includes transferring the property - it should be clearly documented and enshrined in a legally binding agreement on divorce.
