Hi, I'm new to the forum here. I'm currently going through divorce and my stbx and I are trying to work out the financial splits amicably. He has a sizeable superannuation fund whereas I have a small one.

I understand that superannuation funds can be taken into account for divorce, but do we have to wait until retirement in order to actually split them?

Hi April

Welcome to Wiki. You will find lots of advice and support here on the forums, and also in the chat room too.

It may be possible to split the superannuation soon after the financial orders's have been agreed rather than waiting until retirement. This would depend on the rules of the superannuation fund in question.

There is more information about this in the article titled Superannuation and Divorce in the Australian Wikivorce Library

I hope that helps :)
