This month, the Editor-in-Chief Linda contacted me about her own dilemma... Linda has two major parties to attend in quick succession - the first being the launch of the magazine, the second being her own 50th birthday party. With a budget of £300 and a strict brief, I set to work... My first port of call was my favorite site - asos.com.
The full name is "As Seen on Screen". The usp of this site is that it brings you the clothes that you see celebrities wearing and those featured on the catwalk, at high street prices. Starting with the launch party, and aware that although a party, this was a professional event, I found the perfect dress for the editor. The dress above, a copy of a frock worn by Victoria Beckham, seen when out for dinner with her husband, came in at an astounding £38. Suitably "body con" so right of the moment, it would look astounding with a jacket on top for the start of the event, and even better without for later into the night. Given that I had spent so little of the budget, I could afford to look for a second dress for the birthday party, rather than making one expensive dress stretch to two events.
A "big" birthday, such as a 50th, is an event a woman wants to make a splash at. With that in mind, I stayed with Asos, and found this dress at an amazing £50. This is a dress suitable for women of all ages and sizes, in that it will hide a multiple of body sins, not that our amazingly trim Editor-in-Chief has any, of course.
With this sheer shrug (£50, Asos) over the top, this outfit is nearly complete. So far I have spent £138 on two party dresses and a coverup, leaving a large chunk of the budget for shoes. Both of these dresses demand heels, and indeed deserve heels which have impact.
Sticking with Asos to save on the delivery charges, I found these wonderous shoes from KG by Kurt Geiger. At £100 they are a touch on the pricey side, however, as a take on a classic stiletto, these are shoes that you would bring out for many parties for years to come, should you take care of them. All in all, Asos has come up trumps. Two very glamorous party dresses, a shrug and a pair of wonderful shoes all for £238 is not to be sniffed at... and leaves plenty in the budget for an all important glass of bubbles or two!
