My STBX is claiming she can't move out of the FMH as she can't afford to live on her own.

We've only been married a few years, have no kids and she's always been in full employment.

Is it likely that if she does have to move out I'll have to pay any aliment?

Doesn't seem right that I should have to support her financially when she won't even try counselling to save the marriage :(

Aliment depends on how dependant your wife is financially and what resources are available. There is no legal reason for either party to move out unless there is abusive behaviour. Aliment is only paid during the period of separation and periodic allowances are sometimes paid for three years max after divorce to allow for readjustment. After a short marriage readjustment may be considerably shorter than after a shorter one.

That means if aliment/periodic allowance is a possibility it can be for a shorter term if the finances and divorce are agreed quickly. ;)

We've always kept our finances separate so hopefully the readjustment will be minimal.
