What is included in this service?
When you get separated/divorced you and your spouse need to reach an agreement on finances.
This agreement needs to include:
- how assets will be divided up between you (for example property, pensions and savings)
- who will take responsibility for existing debts
- whether any ongoing maintenance payments will be made, for how much and for how long
Once an agreement is reached it can be drafted by a solicitor into a legally binding Consent Order (also known as a clean break agreement).
There are various ways that you can negotiate an agreement such as direct discussions, mediation, using solicitors and/or going to court.
But before you start to negotiate - you need legal advice to know where you stand.
This service includes a joint consultation with experienced arbitrator (who has a background as a family court judge).
Its purpose is to help you understand what you are entitled to and what, according to family law, would be considered a fair settlement, based on your circumstances.
