As far as I am concerned, the meet is still on. The proprietor has told me there is no shortage of accommodation, but I can give you a contact name if anyone wants it.

I will certainly looking forward to sampling the fare a second time. I can''t help allowing myself how Henry VIII would have managed nowadays.

As we would have said, Anne was allowed to keep her head by the divorce settlement, and also this building amongst other things. Nowadays Henry would have lost 50% for his first divorce, 25% for his second, 12.5 % for his third etc etc and the wealth of the British Royal Family would have been all but wiped out by his capers.

We also owe Henry something else - a couple of nursery rhymes. In those days if you criticised the King or his top officials you were quite likely to part company with your head, So the criticism had to be more muted and rather subtle.

You know about Old Mother Hubbard, of course, but it seems to have started life as a political satire. '' Old Mother Hubbard '' is Cardinal Wolsey, who went to the cupboard ( ie the Vatican ) to get her poor doggie ( Henry VIII ) a bone ( the divorce he wanted from Catherine of Aragon ). The cupboard was bare ( the Vatican wasn''t having it ) and so the poor doggie had none.

There is also Little Jack Horner, but I''ll keep that one for June 30.

See you there ?????

Hope so

LMM

Hi All.

Sounds great but what happens at one of these meets?

I know that it''s on 30th June but are there times for this? And costs involved? Such as for food, entertainment etc etc?

Sorry if I am asking stupid questions. New to all this.
Thanks.

DummyMummy.
