Core group
Pension Credit customers who are automatically considered for the discount.
If you meet the following conditions, you do not need to do anything now to get your discount in 2014/2015. The Government will write to all those potentially eligible for the winter 2014/15 discount in autumn 2014.
You may qualify for this energy discount if on 12 July 2014 (the qualifying date) you are the named account holder or partner and:
Receive only the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit (without receiving the Savings Credit) OR
Receive the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit as well as the Savings Credit.

Broader group
Under the WHDS, suppliers have discretion over which households fall under their Broader group criteria. Each company has its own set of qualifying conditions.
British Gas uses a wide set of criteria in order to provide support to a greater number of households.
Who is eligible?
Broader group is open to existing customers who must continue to be in supply of their electricity with British Gas when the payments are made in Winter 2014/15 (which could be any time up to 31st March 2015).
In order to qualify for the Warm Home Discount you (account holder or partner) are required to meet the following criteria:
In receipt of the Savings or Guarantee & Savings element of the State Pension Credit (unless already qualifying as part of Core Group).
OR
In receipt of one of the following means tested eligible benefits:[1]
Income Support.
Income based Jobseekers’ Allowance.
Income related employment and support allowance (which includes a work related activity or support component).
Universal Credit (low income elements).
And includes one of the following:
Child element for children aged 5 or under.
Disabled child element.
OR
Customer has a gross annual house hold income (HHI) of less than £16,010[2] and the account holder is living with mental or physical disability or illness,or there is vulnerability within the home (children living in the house aged 5 or under) or of pensionable age.
OR
Customer has a gross annual house hold income (HHI) of less than £16,010[2] and spend 10% or more of household income on energy bills to heat the property.
