I had a quick look.... the amount the officer pays in each month (10% of salary)is different (other forces pay 7% of salary under 'new scheme' - since 1987, or 11% under 'old scheme')but looking at the table of how much you get per £1000 of final salary appears to be the same in terms of income... Not sure of other details. I'd guess there isn't a huge amount of diffence if there is any...

Hopefully someone will come along with a more definitive answer soon.

... well, it is almost certainly undervalued.... as I understand it most (maybe all?) army and public service final salary pension are undervalued because of how they are calculated.

Hopefully Peter from BDM will be along soon because I think the type or value of an actuary's report depends on what you want to do with the pension (share it or offset it against some other asset).

hello

I believe a full actuaries report is very expensive, when I was in this position I needed a carrot to justify the expense and to see if I had an augument so I got an EXPRESS REPORT from BDM. It cost about £50 was an online service and I had it back by email less than 48 hours later.
If you ask a pension q on here everybody tries to help (no offence to anyone intended!!!) and you'll get loads of for and against answers So for the sake of £50 you'll know for sure weather to go the full hog.

Good luck

xx

vivi36 is right about the express report... they're very good and quick ... and she's right about people trying to help.... although I'd suggest there's nothing wrong with people suggesting lots of 'for and against' answers, as they might suggest points you hadn't thought of...

But I just suggested hoping that Peter from BDM might be along to give you the reasons for the different types of reports you might want to think about... because there are more issues to think about than the value. As I understand it, the exact value is less important if you want a pension share... then the percentage of the pension you should consider becomes more important and that requires a different report.
