What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

No it was a different judge. One judge made the court order for us to return for Directions but another judge heard it.

I just cannot understand why I had to pay 5k when I was court ordered to return.

The other side must have made an application for costs, or at least they be reserved in the application.

So a judge said I want amendments and come back later with it, they were made you went back and another with the order unsigned and another judge ordered costs - it sounds as though the costs may have nothing to do with the amendment, rather your actions or lack of through the application, that would be my best guess.

The other side would not make the amendments the judge wanted before he would approve it. I was advised it would be a waste of time to sign it when no amedments had been made. The judge was not happy with either barrister and gave them a stern talking to regarding position they had put me in. So I didnt resign Consent Order as the judge wasnt happy and of course I wasnt happy about it either.
I am not the type of person to go against a judge so couldnt take that risk.
