What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

It is very easy to accuse one''s ex of lying or making an incomplete disclosure. But, as you probably know, an order will be set aside only if the order would have been different if the true facts had been known.

Without knowing much more, that is a hard question to answer. I''m not, and never was, a divorce practicioner, and can''t help you much.

If you are threatened with homelessness, I used to be a specialist in this field, and could offer much more practical help here. But matters aren''t at that stage yet ; you would actually have to be homeless or could become homeless within 28 days.
