What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hi
I''m new here just this very moment joined
I''m also numb with shock of the outcome after my husband & his girlfriend put me through 3 yrs of pure torment & mysery.
To cut a long story short we set up And I worked 20 years with him in our business. The judge outcome final hearing 50% equal property equity split & joint lives spousal maintenance periodic monthly payment.
He has made it clear he will dissolve the business - he''s actually showing losses now already & I''m having to resign. He''s set up same type business in his girlfriend name using our company initials.
After all the debts legal fees to pay I can''t afford to do anymore legally.
He said in court he had a serious knee problem & he''s told friends he will stop work due to ill health.
I''m quite flat have no energy left anymore.
Even the anti molestation order was ignored .
He used the business fund his new lifestyle paid some of his divorce fees which is also something I couldn''t prove in court.
Will he just be able to go back to court and say he can''t afford to pay if he says the business folded or health?
He just told me to go get a job after I grafted 20 yrs & shut me off!
I''m 51 yrs old I don''t have qualifications or a profession it''s been cruel trying to find work
Sorry I''ve rambled.
Kindest regards

Hi how these person we committed so much time too can be so heartless and cruel. If your not working can you not get legal aid and seek some professional advice. My ex left and applied for a divorce 4 days later after 24 years. Of course he had his next victim lined up. I''m having to get a mortgage to pay him off and waiting for Nisi. I''ve learnt now he''s not here that he is a narcissist and I was so manipulated I didn''t realise. I''m am now learning to live on my own. Working to pay everything cash. He spent all my compensation around K150 and entitled to half house even though I had bought it before he came on the scene. But in saying all that I am glad to be rid of him. I have no contact and we have no kids together and he was always jealous of my involvement with mine.
I''m 56 but my life is not over I will not let him take that from me. My friends are supportive and when I''m low I go to them. I''m learning to make my own decisions and know I will be alright. He will get into debt again and again because to him a credit card is not money.
Learn to love yourself and others will follow. Life is to short to have regrets about the past, enjoy making a future.

hi there
I know - every day Im hurting at the three & half years mystery him & his girlfriend put me through.
Ive been through a lot Im usually quite strong but its hard turning the corner.
the marriage break was bad enough, then my daughter left home went uni who I hardly see because she can''t cope with whats happened, I had to re home my dog, I was pushed out the family business which I built and worked solid 2o yrs & now Im losing my home.
Ive nothing left but the victory of a final hearing & massive debt.
The courts turn your life into an UGLY VICE that tightens you lose control.
The judge has left us pointing a gun to each others head now its awful - I just wanted half thats all but fight mode wasn''t what I expected.
I can''t afford to re train - literally!
can''t get a job!
I don''t think I will get legal aid because I will have some equity from the sale of my house.
your very kind to reply thank you.
How did the mortgage provider assess you for borrowing?
I had very negative response because its the ''single person'' badge fending for themselves!
yes the word narcissist was and is well used - he did some serious cruel things to me the courts ordered him to stay away from the boundary of the house 25 meters and not get out the car!
I got a little job this week running a small office for a woman in same position as me - only one day a week but i feel on top of the world... how crazy after running my own business & staff for many years.. all so degrading but its a new challenge new learning process!

UNLESS YOU GO TO COURT YOU WOULD BE SURPRISED WHAT YOU COULD HOLD ONTO!!!

have you paid him off?

It may be worth talking to your local college about options for training. There are grants available for over 24s for some courses. Also some courses may be free depending on your level of education. Even a full time course usually only takes up 2-3 days so you can still work part time.
Colleges are recruiting now for the next academic year so it is a good time to look.

thank you for the information hadenoughnow

its degrading - I find the snooty attitude with recruitment companies difficult to absorb!! I used agencies to employ office staff & they were just "outspoken females with egos"...

need to think hard - Ive just been hurled out of the final hearing still adjusting
