What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hi
I''m new here just this very moment joined
I''m also numb with shock of the outcome after my husband & his girlfriend put me through 3 yrs of pure torment & mysery.
To cut a long story short we set up And I worked 20 years with him in our business. The judge outcome final hearing 50% equal property equity split & joint lives spousal maintenance periodic monthly payment.
He has made it clear he will dissolve the business - he''s actually showing losses now already & I''m having to resign. He''s set up same type business in his girlfriend name using our company initials.
After all the debts legal fees to pay I can''t afford to do anymore legally.
He said in court he had a serious knee problem & he''s told friends he will stop work due to ill health.
I''m quite flat have no energy left anymore.
Even the anti molestation order was ignored .
He used the business fund his new lifestyle paid some of his divorce fees which is also something I couldn''t prove in court.
Will he just be able to go back to court and say he can''t afford to pay if he says the business folded or health?
He just told me to go get a job after I grafted 20 yrs & shut me off!
I''m 51 yrs old I don''t have qualifications or a profession it''s been cruel trying to find work
Sorry I''ve rambled.
Kindest regards

Welcome to wiki, Sorry you find yourself here.

If your ex fails to pay sm according to the court order you will be able to enforce the court order. Your ex would have to apply for a variation and demonstrate that his income has changed due to circumstances beyond his control and that he is maximising his income.

It is horrible having someone else decide your finances. However, at least now a decision has been made and you know where you stand. It is time to look forwards rather than dwelling on things.

MrsM is quite right about the SM.

As far as future employment goes, it may be worth going to see a careers advisor who may be able to suggest courses you could take to help you. Also remember if you worked in the business for 20 years you have stacks of valuable experience. You may just need some support to sell yourself and your skills.

Alternatively perhaps you could set up your own business?
