Has anyone been successful in stopping Spousal Maintenance after paying it for many years??

The agreement is ongoing unless she cohabits, we've been paying for the past 10 years, she earns more than him and ideally we want to just stop, the cohabiting bit is unlikely to ever happen, and if it does you gotta prove it??

WE were just wondering what the likely hood would be of asking a court to stop it?

Thanks

Hi, you've probably already seen this as it has been widely covered by the media and on this forum: www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/law-and-...ving-off-her-ex.html

So there seems to be one way out/ around it if you have the right argument...

Please do keep us updated on how this goes for you. For exmaple, I have no doubt in my mind that the ex will have some or even a full time job once the divorce is done and the settlement has been agreed even though she is now pleading mental health issues and that it's impossible for her to work - we're still looking at a Final Hearing even though she was offered what she wanted! So I would also be interested to know if SM I will have to pay her can be reduced in that case.

Did she work when the settlement was agreed? I'd go and speak to a lawyer or even two to get some sound feedback on this. If she wasn't working, perhaps you have an argument given the divorce settlement and SM was based on a need for her to be maintained.

If you don't mind me asking - is this SM for life you are looking at?
